The story begins with a young lady named Bicycle. She lives in a monastery called Mostly Silent Monastery. She has lived there most of her life and living there is quite silent. She has no friends because she isn’t used to being around loud children. Her guardian, Sister Wanda, wants to send her to a camp in Nevada called the Friendship Factory. The camp in Nevada says that she will make at least 3 friends. Bicycle decides she doesn’t want go, so she instead hatches her own plan. She gets on her bike named Klunk and she travels across the United States to meet a famous bicyclist to become her very first friend. One the way there though she meets lots of other people and befriends them as well. She also came across a ghost, a burglar, 838 pigs and many more crazy situations. Half way through the trip Klunk falls apart and Fortune is Bicycles new bike. During this adventure, Sister Wanda is trying to get to Bicycle. Bicycle and Wanda reunite in Nevada and again in San Francisco. When ever they meet, Sister Wanda see that Bicycle doesn’t need a factory for Bicycle to make friends, she can find them on her own.
This an amazing story about perseverance and friendship. This book shows how people should get through obstacles and situations in life and the attitude you must have to get through this crazy situations. This book also shows what being a friend is and shows the characteristics of good friendships. This is a great book for students to read to model what it means to be a faithful friend and to have the attitude of perseverance.
