He also told his mother about how some of the zebras were talking about a game, but and he started to talk about the game to, but no one noticed him because he was just staring down at the floor. Zane also talked about how his teacher asked him to draw a planet and I drew my own planet. The teacher loved his planet and said, “whatever floats your boat.” Zane spent the rest of the period looking for a boat to float. He asked his mom why does everyone my autism stripe. Zane’s mom said I see many different stripes and if you were missing one, you wouldn’t be you. She talks about Zane’s pilot stripe and she knew she will never be lost because Zane always knows the way. She also mentions Zane’s caring stripe and honesty stripe. Her favorite is Zane’s curiosity stripe. She mention even more stripes, Zane started to love himself again. Zan ran outside and felt proud about his stripes.
This is a great book to encourage students with autism. This book really shows how students with autism are. It helps students to realize what kids with autism deal with. It also shows how to encourage someone with autism and reinforce how the characteristics they have aren’t weird, but they make them who they are and they should be proud of them.
