Genre- Fantasy/Science Fiction
Grade level- 1st - 4th Grade
The story begins with a fox named, “Foxy Loxy” in a car. He spots a chicken and he’s getting ready to capture the chicken and eat it. An acorn hits the chicken and “Chicken Little” says the sky is falling. The chicken starts to wail and a chicken, a duck, a goose and her child, and a turkey come to help because they hear all the commotion. The fox is getting more and more excited because he sees so many things he could eat for dinner. The fox dresses up as a cop and arrives on the scene with his “police” truck and tells all the animals to get in the truck and he’ll take them to police headquarters. As they are getting in the truck, Chicken Little realizes that the fox is the infamous “Foxy Loxy” who is wanted by the police, but it was too late. The fox started to gloat at his prisoners and he tells them it wasn’t the sky that fell, but an acorn. The fox picks up the acorn and throws it high in the sky. As he is driving away, a police helicopter that flew overhead experienced some problems because an acorn got stuck in the propeller. The hippo in the helicopter ejected from his seat and the helicopter crashed into the truck. The fox tried to run but the hippo landed in top of him. The fox was arrested and was sentenced to jail with only green bean gruel and a weed smoothie everyday. Chicken Little took the acorn and planted right beside her house.
The illustrations in this book are very entertaining and helped illustrate the moral of the story. At the beginning of the book, there is a wanted poster sign that illustrated “Foxy Loxy” and it said that the fox was rude and mean. It shares a good lesson about how being rude and mean doesn’t get you anywhere. I would use this book as a beginning of class attention grabber and free write for two minutes or as a free read option for my students.
